June Photo

What can you tell us about this picture? Who are these people? What were they doing? When was it taken? What significance to our Community Center does the photo represent? Is this you? Is this your mother, aunt, sister or friend?
Please feel free to give as many words as you have in you and to go off on tangents! The Talk Story photos can elicit all kinds of memories that may not tie in directly to the people or activities pictured but we would love to read about them anyway. Whether it is 25 words or 2500, so much of our VJCC history is locked away in our memories. Please help us expand our written record of the VJCC and its members.
Contact us via email with the subject "Talk Story" and the date of the article.

1990 VJCC Festival Set-up |
From information offered by Bonnie Naruo and Ryoko Naruo: The men in the photograph are, from left to right, Gary Uyeno, Kuni Nishiya and Taiji Naruo. The metal frame behind Gary and Kuni and all the lumber leaning against the VJCC gym suggest that the men are participating in one of the VJCC Festival set-ups. It looks like the photo might be from 1991. Thank you, Bonnie, for finding your Uncle Taiji and showing the picture to your mother, Ryoko! Because the men remain as youthful and handsome today, only clothing styles and hair color give a clue to the age of the photograph. Ryoko came extremely close. The picture was taken at the 1990 VJCC Festival set-up. |

1996 Pioneer Project Annual Holiday Party |
“The photo is the Pioneer Project annual Holiday Party at the VJCC gym which has taken place for over 25 years. The picture shows volunteers greeting our Seniors and guests as they walked in. The affair has a catered luncheon, live entertainment, and gifts for our Pioneers.
Pictured, left to right, are Peggy Hoshizaki, Hazel Miyake, Kiyoko Onishi, Gordon Tani (volunteer), Dianne Belli (volunteer), and Irene Matsumura (volunteer).

The group is standing in front of an Angel Maid cake and in the background is the open bar. The photo is over 10 years old but they all look as young today!!” - Eric Inouye Thank you, Eric! All I need to add is that the photograph was taken in 1996. |
