Founded in 1964, Troop 764 began meeting at the Venice Japanese Community Center with these words. Since its inception, the troop has had the honor of advancing 89 scouts to the rank of Eagle. Their names are inscribed on plaques kept on display in the new lobby of the VJCC. In the tradition of Boy Scouts, each troop meeting is opened with a reciting of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

The troop is guided by the veteran scouts of the Senior patrol, who provide leadership for the scouts of the Wolf,

Taz, Shark, and Scorpion patrols. Over its nearly fourty years the scouts of Troop 764 have provided countless hours of service to the VJCC and to our community.

You are welcome to visit our web site and browse through our pages, and leave a comment, if you like, in our guest book. If you would like more information about the troop, or know someone who would like to join, you can contact us through our web site.

Troop Scribe's Report - November 2006

By Eric Bergstrom

Orienteering

On Saturday October 28, 2006, Orienteering took place at Mar Vista Park.  We split up with our patrols and put coordinates in our compasses.  We also had to estimate how long the street is, how wide the basketball court is and how tall a brick wall at the park is.  Orienteering started at eight o'clock in the morning and went until nine thirty.

For the last thirty minutes until ten o'clock, the scouts played football in the grass that became moist from the evenings’ dew.  It was a lot of fun and organized very well thanks to Senior Patrol Leaders Kevin and Ryan Cohen and Adult Leader Mr. Chen.

Troop Scribe's Report - October 2006

By Russell Miller & Eric Bergstrom

Shawn Sugasuwara’s Eagle project

On Sunday September 17, Shawn Sugasuwara held his Eagle project.  It was held in Gardena at the South Bay Keiro Nursing Home.  Troop 764 helped clean and repaint all the metal fences black.

Grant Kakehashi’s Eagle project

On Saturday September 30, Grant Kakehashi held his Eagle project.  It was at the Venice Buddhist Temple.  Troop 764 helped paint walls and rafters.  It was lots of hard work.

Sean Kubota’s eagle project

On Sunday October 1, Sean Kubota held his Eagle project.  The project was a blood drive for the Red Cross at the Venice Japanese Community Center.  Troop 764 helped guide doners around and food was provided for everyone.  There were a total of 55 people who donated, a great turnout.

Steven Hatenaka’s Eagle project

On October 7th, 2006 Steven Hatenaka had his Eagle project.  The Eeagle project was to clear the weeds and plants at the Madrona Marsh in Torrance.  The scouts used many tools like rakes, shovels, and hoes, which we liked a lot.  There were lots of scouts and parents helping to get the work done.  It turned out really good thanks to Steven.  And thanks to the workers at the Madrona Marsh in Torrance that let Steven and Troop 764 help there.

Nick Teruya’s Eagle project

On Sunday October 8, Nick Teruya held his Eagle project.  It was at Venice Beach.  Troop 764 picked up lots of trash that was just lying around.  Many trash bags were filled.
