Thank you to Tosh Aiboshi for this wonderful identification and background information piece about newsletter stapling for those who haven’t had the opportunity to participate in this fun community event.

“The Hard-Working Line Dancers are usually assigned to collate the August issue of the VJCC Newsletter, which is the biggest volume of the year. The newsletter, usually collated in the VJCC office, had to be moved to the larger Conference Room because of the big turnout --almost 40 people! They are very efficient and manage to finish the job in about an hour.

Louie Shiroma (alone in the picture below left) makes sure that each club’s newsletters are kept separate. He’s been with the line dance program since its inception in February 1994. The staplers this year (in the photo below right) are Kay Shiroma, Lily Kato, Betty Kitabayashi, and Joy Ono, while Tosh Aiboshi (standing) makes sure that the staplers remain filled. In the upper right, Louie Shiroma and Jun Oyama, VJCC Newsletter’s treasurer, put finishing touches on the final product before they go to the clubs or to the post office.

The collators (below) look very focused as they gather the sheets—Jane Matsuzaki, Haru Nakata, Nancy Matsunaga, Lorian Baker, and Sandra Setoguchi are among the ones that can be identified. There were a bunch of others who volunteered their Thursday afternoon to do the collating, stapling, and sorting of the newsletters.

They are to be thanked for this task, as well as their work in collating and stapling the 40,000 tickets for the Festival every year.”
