The VJCC was finally able to hold its first in-person, 100-Year Anniversary event. After a stop at the health check station, approximately 180 guests, musicians and volunteers gathered in the elegantly appointed gym at the VJCC on the evening of Saturday, December 4, 2021.
Highlights of the celebration were a delicious bento dinner prepared by Aki Restaurant and live music performed by Brian Yamamoto & Elemental Funk, along with dancing. Our live-streamed program included presentations to 2020 Person of the Year Awardees, Michelle Orne and Luke Uyeda, by VJCC President, Wes Shimoda; and to 2021 Nisei Week Queen and Miss Western Los Angeles, Jaime Sunny Hasama, by Delcene Kuwata.
Following a VJCC 1921-to-2021 history review by Board Member, Dave Hirota, the VJCC and Gail Sharp had the special honor of recognizing Board Member, Hitoshi Shimizu, for his countless years of dedicated service to VJCC.
